There are two parts to the Prediction instrument. The first is the same Social History Sheet used in PaperWork, and completed using specified guidance.

The second part concerns the making of a prognosis. Two alternative methods are suggested in the published tool. Method a uses a summary of potential continuities and discontinuities in the child’s life as the basis for potential interventions that will lead to positive outcomes. Method b requires the user of the tool set out what is likely to happen at best and also in the case of the worst-case scenario. The intervention is then linked to enhancing the chances of the best occurring and minimising the chances of the worst.
